INDIGENOUS

The Honourable Justice Murray Sinclair, Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, has repeatedly highlighted education as the key to reconciliation.  As he once succinctly put it, “Education got us into this mess and education will get us out of it.”

Purcell Collegiate School (PCS) is committed to working with Indigenous partners to take up this mantle in support of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action and  the United Nations Declaration on Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and in pursuit of a better future that values and benefits from Indigenous engagement and inclusion.

ʔaq̓am Community

British Columbia, Canada

Purcell Collegiate School (PCS) sits on the traditional, ancestral homeland of the Ktunaxa peoples. Our neighbours, friends, and corporate partners are members of the ʔaq̓am Community.

The ʔaq̓am Community owns shares in Purcell Collegiate Incorporated (PCI) and holds a seat on its corporate Board of Directors per the landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) the community and PCI signed in 2021.  For more information on this lighthouse partnership including how it supports Truth and Reconciliation and how it will contribute to decolonization, click here.

Purcell Collegiate School Foundation

Kimberley, British Columbia

The Purcell Collegiate School Foundation was founded in 2023 to extend and enhance the educational opportunities afforded by Purcell Collegiate School as follows:

  • by providing educational resources to students attending Purcell Collegiate School or participating in its extra-curricular programs;
  • by providing publicly available scholarships, bursaries, and other forms of financial assistance for students to attend Purcell Collegiate School and/or participate in its extra-curricular programs; and
  • by providing scholarships, bursaries, and other forms of financial assistance to students graduating from Purcell Collegiate School and/or advancing from its extra-curricular programs to attend post-secondary institutions.

Purcell Preschool + Daycare

Kimberley, British Columbia

Purcell Preschool + Daycare is a certified social enterprise.  It was conceived to apply an entrepreneurial approach to British Columbia’s childcare crisis and founded to address community need in Kimberley and area. Its mission is to create accessible and inclusive early-learning and childcare programs in a safe, respectful, and engaging environment. Guided by BC’s Early Learning Framework, it is dedicated to creating a foundation for children to successfully transition into the K-12 education system.

Purcell Preschool is open to children aged 6 months – 5+ years in three cohorts:  a Conventional Preschool/Daycare Program, a Forest Preschool Program, and an Infant-Toddler program.

K-12 SCHOOLS

Purcell Collegiate School (PCS) is committed to collaboration and cooperation in support of cultivating and activating relationships that support opportunities for all school stakeholders, particularly students and staff.  Sister-school agreements and other school-to-school partnerships are ideally suited to this purpose and are priority for PCS to negotiate and activate.

STRATHCONA-TWEEDSMUIR SCHOOL (STS)

Okotoks, Alberta

Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS) is a premier, co-educational, independent day school that traces its roots and traditions back over 110 years. STS develops well-balanced students for a life of purpose by inspiring excellence in scholarship, leadership and character.

PCS and STS have signed an MOU to partner together to create extended and enhanced learning opportunities for students at both schools.  This partnership includes particular focus in the areas of international education, Indigenous engagement, and outdoor learning.

NO. 2 HIGH SCHOOL

Guangzhou, China

Guangzhou No. 2 High School was initially established as a middle school in August 1930. The first principal was Xu Gantang (徐甘棠), a well-known educator.  Today, the Guangzhou No. 2 High School Education Group (广州二中教育集团), which was formalized in 2017, includes two private schools and four public schools. In 2019, the whole group has 7,066 students and 166 classes.  Guangzhou No.2 High School is ranked top five among high schools in Guangzhou.

In March 2023, PCS and No. 2 signed a Letter of Intent to become formal sister schools under the umbrella of the province-to-province MOU between British Columbia and Guangdong.  A delegation from No. 2 will visit PCS in October 2023 for a signing ceremony and as a commencement of exchange activities which will include a focus on STEM subjects, particularly in relation to sustainability.

Kimberley Alpine Resort functions as a satellite campus for PCS students and includes Kootenay Haus, the highest high-school classroom in Canada!

Health Insurance

All international students studying at Purcell Collegiate School are covered by StudentVIP’s International Health & Wellness Program.  Upon arrival to campus, students receive their health insurance package which includes their health card for use when they visit the doctor, pharmacy, or dentist.
