The BC Ministry of Education has implemented a concept-based, competency-driven curriculum. The major shift is from a knowledge curriculum to a skill or competency-based curriculum. Full details on this curriculum can be found at the Ministry of Education website at: https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/
ASSESSMENT
With the release of the new curriculum in BC there is also a new framework for recognizing the assessment of student learning through a proficiency scale. Using this scale, students will be marked as Emerging, Developing, Proficient and Extending which in turn matches a provincial letter grade system. Students and parents receive formative and summative feedback based on the proficiency scale and letter grade system through formal reports at both the mid-point and the end of the school year.
SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS
Students continue to have scheduled classes and activities on Saturdays and Sundays each month which include both academic and extra-curricular programs. This allows learning to take place in both formal and informal ways.
